Gloria Gordon Ulbrich, RCB Bank
Congratulations to Gloria Gordon Ulbrich on 50 years of exceptional banking service!
Raised on a farm near Atlanta as the daughter of Dale and Alta Gordon, she graduated from Central High School in Burden in 1976. In October 1975, she began working afternoons at the State Bank of Burden as an insurance agency secretary. After graduation, she became a full-time Teller, Bookkeeper, Insurance Secretary and Proof Operator, remaining at the Burden Bank for eight years until Aug. 1, 1984. She married Rick Ulbrich in September 1980.
Gloria attended Cowley College, the Kansas-Nebraska School of Banking and various banking-related classes throughout her career. She also taught Principles of Banking for three years at area banks.
On Aug. 16, 1984, Gloria joined the First National Bank of Winfield, working in the Proof Department, Teller Area and Savings Department. Her daughter, Crystal, was born in 1989. In 1990, she became Assistant Cashier and Supervisor of the Savings/New Accounts Department. Throughout the years, Gloria worked in many areas as Supervisor, including Customer Service, Loan Payments, Item Processing, Savings Department, BSA Officer and New Accounts. Future promotions were Assistant Vice President, Vice President and Senior Vice President of Deposit Operations.
When she started in banking, bank statements were still prepared by hand, and checks returned to customers — no check images yet! She assisted with bringing check processing in-house and other advancements in banking history. ACH processing was in its infancy.
First National Bank changed its name in 1999 to CornerBank. Gloria played a key role in implementing some of the first online banking services in Winfield and served on the Executive, ALCO and Branch Operations Committee. At one point, 34 employees worked under her leadership. She oversaw deposit regulations, account parameters, ATMs, online banking and all depository-related functions.
In July 2016, the bank’s ownership changed to RCB Bank. Gloria transitioned to Business Development and, in 2017, became Vice President/Retail Coordinator for the Winfield market. She enjoys customer service and helping people resolve their issues. She states that banking is never boring — each day brings a new challenge.
She resides in Winfield and hopes to continue in the banking industry for a few more years. In addition to her professional achievements, Gloria enjoys local history and has volunteered her time to organizations such as the Cowley County Historical Society, Celebrate Cowley County History, Winfield Library Board, Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Isle of Lights, Winfield Main Street, Leadership Cowley County, Wichita Audubon Society, Kiwanis, and others throughout Winfield and Cowley County.
