The Bank Leaders of Kansas is designed to prepare bankers to play a greater role in the KBA as well as lead the Kansas banking industry in the future. Dr. Bruce Morgan, Ph.D. got the ball rolling on Tuesday evening and gave an excellent presentation on High Performing Banks in Kansas. It was a jam-packed lecture with topics ranging from hiring the best staff to lending practices and managing returns on assets. Dr. Bruce was candid and humorous in his approach as he shared statistics and performance measures on many Kansas banks. The group was also introduced to the many products and services of the KBA Education Department by Becky Tongish, SVP Educational Resources. Terri Thomas, SVP Legal Department, also discussed the programs and services of the KBALegal Department including the new consulting and auditing services. Wednesday morning began with a trip to The Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank to understand how it promotes economic growth and financial stability in our region and the country as a whole. The class was honored to have personal audience with Esther George, President of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. She was very approachable and answered many questions regarding the current financial environment of the country as well as processes and duties of the Federal Reserve Bank. The BLOK class also enjoyed two additional presentations including the history of how the bank evolved and an economic update on banking conditions. The visit wrapped up with a tour of the fabulous building where they moved in June of 2008 including the Federal Reserve board room and cash vault area. The class enjoyed the following day and a half at the Tri-State Leadership Conference at the DoubleTree Hotel in Overland Park.
