The group had the opportunity to hear a brief presentation of the history, structure and governance of the Federal Reserve System from Esther George, President & CEO. George’s pre- sentation was followed by a question and answer session and a presentation on the “Regional Economic Outlook” by Adam Pope, Assistant Economist.“We were very pleased to coordinate this important visit to the Federal Re- serve Bank of Kansas City for this distinguished group of state policymakers that included the respective chairman of the State Senate and House Financial Institutions Committees. I’m confident the time these state leaders spent with our Regional Bank President Esther George and members of her team produced a heightened awareness of the vitally important role the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City plays for the State of Kansas,” states Doug Wareham, KBA’s SVP-Government Relations.State lawmakers participating in the special visit included the Senate Financial Institutions & Insurance Committee Chairman (Sen. Rob Olson) and Ranking Member (Sen. Tom Hawk), along with the House Financial Institutions Committee Chairman (Rep. Pete DeGraaf), Vice Chairman (Rep. Jim Kelly) and committee member Rep. Vern Swanson. Senator Olson currently serves on the Board of Directors of Bank of the Prairie at Olathe and Rep. Jim Kelly is Executive Vice President with Community Nation- al Bank & Trust in Independence, Kansas. A tour of the 14th floor administrative offices included a brief stop in the board room and a chance to sit in President George's chair.
