J.D. rose to the top spot and was named President in 1974. The bank was housed in a two room building with two vaults. J.D.’s first priority as the bank president was to move to a location that could handle anticipated bank growth. With the help of staff members, J.D. worked personally on the interior of the new building just four doors down from the original bank. In 1976 the former grocery store opened on budget and on time as the new St. John National Bank building. In 1984 J.D. retired as bank president but remained on the board. He came out of retirement to work as Vice President & Ag Officer in 1996. He currently works part-time at one of the three bank locations every week. In addition he is one of three executive officers and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board. J.D. plans to remain active in the bank as it converts from St. John National Bank (established in 1905) to a state-chartered bank-SJN Bank of Kansas. J.D. has served in his community as President of the Chamber of Commerce, the city Treasurer, served ten years on the Nine County Development Board, and twenty years as a County Commissioner. Reed Peters Reed Peters began his banking career in 1961 in the auditing department at City National Bank, Kansas City, now known as UMB. In 1963 he was promoted to Assistant Vice President in the Correspondent Bank Department. In 1967 he accepted a position as Cashier at First State Bank & Trust Co. of Larned. He served as President & CEO/Chairman of the Board at First State Bank & Trust Co. of Larned from 1968 – 2006. Reed currently serves as Sr. Trust Officer, Director for the bank as well as President & Chairman of First State Financial Corporation. Reed has been active in the KBA serving three terms on the Board of Directors and as KBA Treasurer. He has also served as a member of the Federal Affairs Committee. He is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Madison. Reed has a strong service record dating back to 1967. He has served as President of the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce, President of Pawnee County Area Development Inc., President of Larned Community Development, Inc., President of Larned Rotary Club, President of the Community Hospital Committee among many other positions. He was elected to Larned City Council for two terms and has remained active in the First Presbyterian Church.
