Davis’ departure opened the door for Rep. Tom Burroughs (D-Kansas City) to ascend from the Assistant Minority Leader post to become the newly appointed leader of the 28-member Democratic Caucus. Kansas House Democrats also met on December 1st to designate new leadership and in addition to Burroughs, elected Rep. Luis Ruiz (D-Kansas City) to serve as their Assistant Minority Leader. Burroughs is an 18-year veteran of the Kansas House, while Ruiz was first elected in 2004.
