A group of 45 bankers met with the FDIC, CFPB and OCC followed by a day of meetings with U.S. Senators Roberts and Moran and Congressional Representatives Huelskamp, Jenkins, Pompeo and Yoder. It was noted that the financial industry is in a better place than it was 5 years ago, with slow but steady growth since 2010. Community banks are outpacing the general economy, even with modest loan demand and slim profit margins. The number of problem banks in the United States has fallen from 888 in 2011 to less than 250 today, and most banks are well- positioned to build balance sheets and capital as credit demand and liquidity improve. Truth in Lending/RESPA Integrated Mortgage Disclosure compliance was a hot topic as bankers are concerned with fines and penalties in early phases of implementation, as vendors are still working to create compliant programs. Regulators were asked to reassure banks that are making a good faith effort to be in compliance with the new rules won’t be unjustly criticized or penalized for violations. KBA FEDERAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE KBA Chairman Kelly Mason, First National Bank in Pratt; Leonard Wolfe, United Bank & Trust, Marysville; Lyndy Wells, INTRUST Bank, Wichita; and Doug Wareham, KBA, enjoy the top deck of a Potomac dinner cruise. KBA President Chuck stones greeted Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins with a birthday cake at the closing reception. Ted Starr, Citizens State Bank & Trust, Hiawatha; Tom Page, Emprise Bank, Wichita; and Frank Carson, Carson Bank, Mulvane, listen to the CFPB briefing. Earl McVicker, Central Bank & Trust, Hutchinson, and Chuck Stones, KBA, caught up following the meeting with Senator Pat Roberts. Frank Carson, Carson Bank, Mulvane, and Bob Leftwich, Impact Bank, Wellington, demonstrate for Rep. Mike Pompeo (center) that one size does not fit all. 2015 ADVOCACY TRIP TO DC
