BANK OF HAYS ADDS NEW LOAN OFFICER Victoria native Curt Schmidtberger has joined Bank of Hays, 1000 W. 27th, as a commercial loan officer. Schmidtberger is a 1991 graduate of Victoria High School and a 1995 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a degree in Business Management. Prior to joining Bank of Hays, he served ten years with another regional lending institution. Schmidtberger and his wife, Mary Jo (an ICU nurse at HaysMed) are lifelong Ellis County residents. They have three sons: Devin, 10; Deyton, 8; and Dalton, 5. Bank of Hays is a locally owned community bank with additional branches in Hanston (Hanston State Bank), Jetmore (The Farmers State Bank of Jetmore) and Lewis (Bank of Lewis). IN LOVING MEMORY Bill Freeman, 84, of LeRoy, KS, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015, in Burlington, KS. Freeman was born January 27, 1931, in Burlington, to Harold and Erma Freeman. He graduated from Burlington High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Emporia State University and later earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Kansas. He married Joan Bader on August 22, 1954. Freeman coached and taught physical education and coached football. He led LeRoy High School, then Oswatomie High School to State titles before building a dynasty at Lawrence where his team played in 10 consecutive Class 6A State Championships from 1986-1995. Following his retirement he returned to LeRoy in 1990 where he owned 1st National Bank of LeRoy. He was very active in the LeRoy community, serving as Mayor for 21 years. Freeman is survived by Joan, his wife of more than 61 years; his son Jeff Freeman; his daughter, Jennifer Nauertic and husband Bob; three grandchildren; his sister, Helen Sherrick and husband Don; and extensive extended family. 2016 W INTER IRA W ORKSHOPS Presented by Patrice M.
