l e a d i n g a d v o c a t e f o r t h e b a n k i n g i n d u s t r y i n k a n s a s 22 Martin Russell Winter, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at the Long Term Care Center in Satanta. He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Bucklin to Martin Simon and Lenna Lee Brown Winter. He graduated from Sublette High School in 1939 and attended Garden City Junior College. On Sept. 3, 1944 he married Bonnie Louise Robinson. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1992. Mr. Winter began his banking career in 1940 at the Haskell County State Bank in Sublette. He later worked in accounting in Denver and Garden City, and had insurance, tax preparation and real estate businesses in Satanta. He was Chief Executive Officer at the State Bank of Satanta for 38 years, then established Satanta Enterprises. He served as Treasurer of the Kansas Bankers Association, State Vice President for the American Bankers Association and was a member of the Kansas State Banking Board. Mr. Winter has served as a Haskell County commissioner, president of the Satanta Chamber of Commerce, founding member of Haskell County Grain, member of the Satanta Community Development Corporation, and helped establish the Cimarron Valley Golf Course. He was a member of the Satanta United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He loved flying his plane, playing golf, traveling and sharing his swimming pool. Survivors include daughters Pat and husband Jim Shearman, Nancy and husband Bill Anton, Jan and husband Jim Groth, all of Satanta, and Ruby and husband Gaylon Green of Hutchinson; grandchildren Marc and wife Stephanie Anton of Newton, Erik and wife Angel Anton of Tucson, Ariz., Kristin and husband Dana Evans of Wichita, Lora Green of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Danelle and husband Geoff Schiffelbein of Satanta; step-sister Donna and husband Tom Miller of Scott City; half- sister Mary Ann and husband Richard Duncan of Sublette; half-brothers Larry and wife Marilyn Winter and Ron and wife Peggy Winter, both of Sublette; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Vera Winter; brother, Elton Winter; and sister, Romola Burk. MACK VAIL COLT 1939 - 2016 After an active life as an avid golfer and quail hunter, Mack Vail Colt of Mission Hills put away his golf clubs, shotgun, Bible, walking shoes and business journals and joined his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2016. He was born on June 29, 1939, in Iola, Kan., to Mack Clayton and Jane Vail Colt. He received a B.S. in Business in 1961 and a Juris Doctor in 1964 from the University of Kansas. His love of the Jayhawks was life-long. A loyal supporter of KU academics and athletics, he held season football and basketball tickets through the good times and bad. Many family memories were shared at tailgates and family trips to the Final Four. Mack was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and his brothers in the bond included lifelong friends and business partners. The Kansas City alumni association awarded him the Phi Delt of the Year award. It was at KU that he met the love of his life, Sara Clawson, and they were married in 1961. An entrepreneur, Mack had a sixth sense for understanding business. As a life insurance producer, he was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and multiple-year Top of the Table qualifier. After purchasing the bank in his wife's hometown of Hartford, Kan., in 1967, he diversified his businesses over the years. He served as the president and chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Lawrence. At the time of his death, he was serving on the US Bank Board of Kansas City and the Everest Bankshares Board. Mack accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in law school through Campus Crusade for Christ. Daily Bible reading, several weekly Bible Studies and operating his businesses using Christian ethics reflected his faith. He was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and deacon. He was also a member of the United Way Tocqueville Society. For over 50 years, business people, missionaries and charitable organizations were blessed by the sharing of his time, talents and treasure to further God's kingdom. Mack truly loved his family and enjoyed a deep personal relationship with each of his children and grandchildren. He treasured annual vacations with the family who adored him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sara; children, Liz (Dave) Deckert of Leawood; Kristin (John) Goodwin of Mission Hills; Mack (JoAnn) Colt of Lenexa; grandchildren, Katherine and Elizabeth Deckert; Sara, Johnny and Catherine Goodwin; Mack and Jane Colt; sisters, Ann Colt of The Netherlands, Edith Carr of Wayzata, MN and Carol McClelland of Prairie Village, KS. Centera Bank Announces Changes Centera Bank announced the retirement of Jack Woods, Branch Manager of its Minneola Office, as of December 31, 2015. Connie Van Winkle, Cashier, was promoted to the position of Branch Manager and Cashier, taking over for Woods as of January 1, 2016. Van Winkle has been with the bank for 35 years.
