l e a d i n g a d v o c a t e f o r t h e b a n k i n g i n d u s t r y i n k a n s a s 12 Carolyn Peterson began her banking career in November 1964 at the American State Bank in Great Bend her junior year of high school – at the suggestion of her vice principal. She loved banking so much she reasoned that college was not for her since she had found a great career that she loved. When her new husband was stationed in California while in the Air Force, she went to work at Wells Fargo Bank. After returning to Kansas in 1970, she went to work for the National Bank of America, in what was the beginning of a 42- year association with the bank. Carolyn began at NBA as a teller and worked hard to become the SVP and Cashier as well as Marketing Director. She retired from UMB in 2013 as their Customer Relationship Manager for the Salina location. After she retired, she discovered that – in her words – “working was her hobby.” She was fortunate that the Bank of Tescott was looking for a Club 50 Program Coordinator – where she still works today – full time again, as the Teller Supervisor. She credits her longevity and success to great banking families that supported her in her banking career at all three of the Kansas banks where she has worked. Carolyn’s list of involvements and awards are seriously too long to list. A few she cares about most are Church, school, and her community. She lives in Salina with her husband, Lugene. Don Mense began his banking career on January 1, 1966 at the Hoxie State Bank in Hoxie Kansas. He has worked for the same bank, with a name change here and there, his entire career. Don started as a teller and worked his way through the ranks of Bookkeeper, Loan Officer, and Vice President. He became SVP in 1989 and President from 1992 to today, and was the bank’s Chairman & CEO from 2002-2005. Throughout his career, Don was active in the KBA as well as the ABA. Don attended many, many ABAAgriculture conferences throughout the US. As with most community bankers, Don has a long list of community involvements. He enjoys farming and golf and continues to help and work with his customers. 50 YEAR CLUB 2016
