The session opened with a leadership panel made up of KBA Chairman Jim Hoskins, CEO of The Baxter State Bank in Baxter Springs, KBA Chairman-elect Ron Johnson, CEO of Community National Bank in Seneca, and Former KBA Chairman Leonard Wolfe, CEO of United Bank & Trust in Marysville. The panel held a candid discussion of leadership styles and accountability. They also covered issues such as cyber security and trends in the ag industry. Day one concluded on a high note with a performance in Holton by the local country band called Cross Roads with vocal performances from several KBA staff and some BLOK class members. KBA Chairman Jim Hoskins continued the tradition of the KBA Chairman leading in one song. The energy level was evidence of relationships developed through the BLOK experience. The following morning, Ted Garnett, Performance Resources Consulting, LLC., provided a workshop on leadership and execution. He led the class through multiple exercises that required communication through speaking and charged up listening skills. He also facilitated the game “win the most,” which always stirs up the room. In Session I the class was divided into groups of four and assigned a leadership book. Each group provided a book report with high level analysis with a PowerPoint presentation. Ted Garnett ended the day with activities on team building and improved performance. The class will graduate from the Bank Leaders of Kansas program at the Public Affairs Conference on February 8, 2017. 2016 BLOK Sponsors Bankers’ Bank of Kansas Central States Capital Markets, LLC INTRUST Bank, N.A.
