He is also working on the interstate medical licensing compact that will expand telemedicine into rural areas. This legislation will go into effect July 2017. Representative Larry Campbell has served in the Statehouse two different times. His initial term was 1997 – 2004. He went back into service in 2013 and is the Chairman of the K-12 Education Budget Committee. Their primary mission is the school funding formula, which is a hot point in the State Capital this year. Campbell also serves on the appropriations committee. He began his career in financial services in 1978 at a finance company. In 1979 he was hired at First National Bank of Olathe as a lender. He currently serves as a lender at Merrit Bank in Olathe and is proud that he has worked with some of the same customers for 30 years. Merrit Bank is currently transitioning to Academy Bank, which should be complete in April. “The gracious support from my bank has been an important part of my success in community service,” he said. “They understand the bigger community responsibility and embrace their role,” he continued. Campbell also serves on the Olathe City Council. “My greatest accomplishment is being able to help people,” Campbell stated. As a centralist, he understands how the pendulum often swings too far and he enjoys providing a voice of reason that can bring people together. In this era of polarized politics, he uses his experience as a banker to think analytically and remove emotion from the discussion. “I am more optimistic than I have been in a while that good work will be done. We are here to make a difference and I’m encouraged,” stated Campbell.
