The ag producers panel was moderated by Darrell Holaday, Advanced Market Concepts. The panel was made up of Kansas producers and included: Josh Lloyd, Lloyd Farms, Inc. in Oak Hill; David Clawson, The Clawson Ranch Partnership in Englewood; and Dave Sprigg, D & C Cattle in Norton. The 2017 Kansas Ag Bankers Division Conference included a tradeshow with 13 vendors. Blach detailed the markets and production of protein sources and discussed capacity. He explained that the U.S. will continue to increase beef, pork and poultry production and they’ll have to have access to strong exports to maintain the balance of supply and demand. Darrell Holaday provided a grain market outlook that covered international trade, crop-insurance basics and market trends to watch. Holaday explained how government policies such as biofuels impacted commodities and demonstrated that the world supply is higher than demand, which is driving prices down. Holaday gave projections for pricing but concluded with a point on controlling operating costs. Kansas State University Professor Dr. Barry Flichbaugh closed the conference with a talk that covered the politics of federal farm policy. In “Flinchbaugh style,” he discussed political appointments that may have an impact on farm policy, gave a recap of the presidential election, and his predictions for the farm bill. Plan to attend the 2018 KBA Ag Bankers Conference, which will be on March 7 – 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan, KS. Kris Paranto took time to sign books and talk with Kansas bankers following his talk that detailed the events in Bengazi on September 11, 2012. He is pictured here with Craig Stukey and Paul Quaney, both from First National Bank of Kansas in Burlington.
