Ryan McLaughlin, Central States Capital Markets, LLC, enjoys the “Candy Bar.” Amy Gross, Dale Carnegie Training, worked to engage YBOKers during her presentation on employee engagement. Smith also gave multiple examples of fraud detection and provided tips for personal cybersecurity. Flaxbeard was tagged in following the cybersecurity and fraud component. He gave an overview of the scope and expectations of CECL. He also addressed CECL readiness and implementation. Defining engagement and understanding the impact of a manager-employee relationship was the key topic for the presentation by Dale Carnegie training expert Amy Gross. She led the group through an interactive session that included self-reflection activities. Gross also walked through the top three drivers of employee engagement and shared tools for engagement interviews and praise models for recognition. Dalton Henry, Legislative Director from the newly established office of Congressman Roger Marshall, was on hand to provide updated information on the Farm Bill. He also spoke about the considerable amount of time that staff is spending on preparations for tax reform. Henry was engaging with his candid remarks on the polarizing environment in DC and the 24-hour news cycle. Paul Long is widely known as “The cat suit guy” from his debut at the Kansas City Royals games where he was named 2016 Fan of the Year for his part in a social experiment involving two grown men in cat wrestling singlets. Long closed the meeting portion of the conference talking about “Fundamism” and the motivating factors for the next generation workforce. He discussed fun with purpose and the fundamentals of an optimistic lifestyle. An evening of fun and networking were on tap for the Aggieville Olympics which required teams to work together as they battled in a myriad of challenges. Day two commenced at the Colbert Hills Golf Course for an 18-hole scramble. The 2018 YBOK Spring Conference will be held in Salina on May 10-11.
