State Bank of Bern adds Vice-President The State Bank of Bern is proud to announce the addition of Thomas W. Sheik as Vice-President and Loan Officer. Tom represents the third generation of the Sheik Family working for the bank, following in the footsteps of his late grandfather James E. Sheik and his father William J. Sheik. He will be working primarily out of the Axtell location. Tom is a 2006 graduate of Bern High School and has a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Finance, along with a Minor in Economics, from Kansas State University. Additionally, he completed a Master’s of Business Administration from Kansas State University. The last seven years he has worked as a Financial Examiner with the Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner. “We at Axtell are very excited to have Tom join us and be a part of the local communities. As the banking environment continues to evolve, we hope to continue to provide services that help our customers be successful. Tom is married to Kathleen Sheik (Ek), originally from Emporia, KS. Katie has a B.S. Degree in Sociology from Emporia State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas. She has experience in both education and healthcare and is currently working for the Sabetha Community Hospital. The couple is residing in Seneca, KS. Chelsy Parsons Earns CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Chelsy Parsons, Account Administrator at The Trust Company, has been authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) to use the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP® certification marks in accordance with CFP Board certification and renewal requirements. Chelsy joined The Trust Company in 2016 as a member of Katie Seay’s Client Service Team, handling responsibilities for both client account management and financial planning. She is a 2011 K-State graduate with a B.S. in Personal Financial Planning. Chelsy previously worked at Confluence Financial Advisors in Boulder, CO, and as the Manhattan Branch Manager for Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc. Scott B. Poor Joins the KANZA Bank Board of Directors KANZA Bank announces that Scott B. Poor, Attorney and Advisor, Hartstein Poor, LLC., has joined the KANZA Bank Board of Directors. Scott resided in Eastborough, Kansas with his wife, Tonya, and two daughters. He received his education at the University of Tulsa law school, Kansas State University and Southern Methodist University. Farmers State Bank Announces Promotions Farmers State Bank, a locally owned community bank serving McPherson County, has announced the following promotions. J.B. Warren will become the Chairman Emeritus of Farmers State Bank and Jeff Warren will assume the duties of Chairman of the Board and CEO after having served the bank as President. Greg Warren has been promoted to President and Tammy Curtright will become Executive Vice President for the bank. Additional promotions were announced for Dave Schrag to Senior VP and Zac Hoppes to Senior VP. One addition was made to the board of directors for Farmers State Bank with the election of Zac Hoppes as a director. Banker Addressed Banking Committee W. R. Robbins, President & CEO of Farmers Bank & Trust, Great Bend, and Alan Deines, Director of The Robbins Banking Institute, provided a presentation about the Robbins Banking Institute at Fort Hays State University to the Banking Committee at the Kansas Statehouse. In Loving Memory Norman G. Severns, 90, Marysville, died February 4, 2018 in Overland Park, KS. Norman was born on a farm southwest of Marysville, on December 3, 1927, to Eck and Constance (Wetzler) Severns. He attended grade school at Deer Creek, and graduated from Marysville High School in 1945. After completing a one-year course, in six months, at National Business Institute in Lincoln, NE, he returned to Marysville and worked at Anderson-Boss Motor Co. until October 1950, when he was drafted into the Army. He served two years, including service in Japan and Korea, where he received the Japanese Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and a Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant for outstanding service as Battalion Personnel Sgt, with an Artillery Battalion from Enid, OK, as part of the 45th Infantry Division. Following his return from service, he was employed at Exchange Bank of Schmidt & Koester, and the Citizens State Bank for nearly 55 total years. He was married to Velma Sedlacek Seidl on November 15, 1959. Together they raised 3 children, David E. Seidl, and Wesley A. Seidl, and Ann L. Severns Hoelting. After 51 years of marriage, Velma passed away 7 years and a day earlier on Feb. 3, 2011.
