Ryan will work directly with KBA Insurance, Inc. President Herb Iams in directing the marketing and operations of KBA Insurance, Inc., including maintaining direct contact with bankers across the state. Ryan is already a well-known figure to many Kansas bankers having served as Vice President/Investment Representative for Central States Capital Markets the past seven years. A regular at KBA conferences and events, Ryan is also a 2016 graduate of KBA's Bank Leaders of Kansas (BLOK) program and in 2018 was selected to serve as an Ambassador by KBA's Young Bank Officers of Kansas (YBOK) Division Board. "Ryan has a proven record of building strong and lasting relationships with Kansas bankers and will add a new dynamic of leadership to the entire KBA staff team and specifically KBA's insurance department," states Doug Wareham, Kansas Bankers Association President/CEO. Wareham adds, "Ryan's combination of industry experience, unquestionable integrity and a desire to serve Kansas bankers made him the perfect candidate to learn and follow in the footsteps of KBA Insurance, Inc. President Herb Iams." Bankers’ Bank of Kansas Adds New Board Members Bankers’ Bank of Kansas elected two new members to serve three-year terms for the Kansas bank-owned organization. Brian Chamberlin, President/CEO, Andover State Bank, Andover; and Michael Ewy, President/ CEO, Community State Bank, Coffeyville. Three members were re- elected for their second three-year term: Robert Beymer, Chairman/CFO/Senior Trust Officer, The Kearny County Bank, Lakin; Mark Emley, Market President, Academy Bank, Overland Park; and Michael Scheopner, President/CEO, Landmark National Bank, Topeka. Calvin Coady, President/CEO, Bankers’ Bank of Kansas, Wichita was re-elected for a one-year term. Mark Keeny, CEO, Citizens Bank of Kansas, Kingman, was elected BBOK’s Chairman of the Board and Lloyd Culbertson, President, First National Bank and Trust, Phillipsburg was named Vice Chairman of the Board. Mike Stevens Mike Stevens retired from Centera Bank on March 28, 2019 after 41 years of service. Born to a banking family, Mike had the opportunity to learn about the banking industry on weekends, summers and internships, leading him to the University of Kansas, where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1977. He went to work for the OSBC as an examiner that same year. Mike began his career with Haskell County Bank, as an Ag Rep in 1978. He furthered his education, graduating from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado in 1981. He held numerous positions at the bank before becoming President in 1984, CEO in 1987 and Chairman of the Board in 1999. Haskell County State Bank became Centera Bank in 1999. Mike served as Chairman of the Kansas Bankers Association in 2005-06, and was on the KBA Board, KBA Insurance Board, State Banking Board and the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado Board. In addition, he has served on various ABA and KBA committees. Tom Marks Tom Marks has retired from Farmers Bank & Trust in Atwood after 42 ½ years as part of the organization. Marks started as a teller in 1976 and closed out his career as Vice President and Loan Officer. He worked alongside his father, Yale Marks, for a number of years, making 65 years with a Marks’ legacy at FB&T. More time with family and rounds on the course are now on his schedule. The bank celebrated the occasion by presenting him a new golf cart. Steve Handke The leader of Union State Bank has called it a career after 35 years at the bank. Steve Handke recently submitted his resignation ahead of his retirement. Over Handke’s career, Union State Bank grew from $7.5 million in assets to well over $300 million and serving seven communities. Steve McSpadden KBA President & CEO Doug Wareham joined Eric Kurtz, President & CEO, Steve McSpadden, retiring Vice Chairman and Bill Docking, Chairman of the Board at a special retirement reception held recently honoring McSpadden’s service to Union State Bank in Winfield. McSpadden also served Chairman of the Kansas Bankers Association in 2007-08.
