May/June 2019 21 l e a d i n g a d v o c a t e f o r t h e b a n k i n g i n d u s t r y i n k a n s a s Day two featured a presentation by Loretta Summers on “Leadership Pickles.” Loretta began with a comparison between managers and leaders: Managers are about doing things right, while leadership is doing the right things. Leadership is being the best person you can possibly be, while spreading enthusiasm throughout your team. The concept of Leadership Pickles centers around enthusiasm, confidence and integrity and how acquiring these traits will enhance your leadership within the organization. A Leadership Pickle proficiency assessment was distributed to the group on their ability to spread enthusiasm; inspire confidence; and demonstrate integrity. Think about how you and your team could improve on these three assessments. Chris Scaffidi, The Pacific Institute, spent time talking about the importance of organizational culture, which is the essential building block of organizational performance. A constructive culture is one that adapts to change and empowers people to be co-accountable for organizational results. During the course of his presentation, Chris emphasized three concepts: Mindset matters, culture matters, engagement matters. Organizations that pay attention to mindset, culture and engagement will employ strategies that drive productivity and performance of their people. Our 20th Annual Tri-state Leadership and HR conference concluded with a super-charged, energetic and inspirational message that combined music, entertaining storytelling and an unforgettable finale to help you be successful in business and in life. Lynn O’Dowd presented her GoGaga Formula that helped her transform from a successful corporate time management consultant to being a rock n’ roll singer and motivational speaker. In addition to the sessions described above, breakout presentations were held on compensation strategies to attract and retain talent; employment law highlights for community banks; and creating a collaborative workplace. Please mark your calendars for next year’s conference to be held March 24-25 at the Marriott Hotel in Overland Park, KS. Exhibitors and sponsors showcased their products and services throughout the conference. Paul Introduces attendees to the concept of fundamism and how it can positively affect the workplace. Investing in your “people” portfolio is key to creating a healthy work environment. Susie explains how to stay positive while diffusing the negative. The conference concludes with an inspirational message and performance demonstrating Lynn’s GoGaga formula. Attendees took advantage of numerous networking and idea share opportunities.
