In Kansas Banking Jackie Kuhn, VP-Staff Attorney, Celebrates 40 years at KBA Jimmy Carter was president, gas was 86 cents a gallon, Pink Floyd released “The Wall,” and Jackie Kuhn started her career at the Kansas Bankers Association. She was hired October 1, 1979 as an administrative assistant in the Insurance Department and in July of 1981, Jackie accepted a position in the Legal Department as a research clerk. While working full- time, Jackie also went to school on her path to becoming an attorney. She attended Washburn University obtaining her Associate Degree in Legal Assisting, Bachelor of Business in Business Administration Degree and in 1992 her Juris Doctor Degree. Jackie has seen numerous changes in 40 years answering questions from Kansas bankers. “Back in the good ole days you knew answers to most legal questions off the top of your head. Now, due to all the financial regulatory requirements, considerable research is often essential,” she said. During her 40 years, Jackie has answered thousands of questions from bankers and has impeccable knowledge of regulatory compliance. One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is the satisfaction she feels when bankers are so appreciative when she helps them with a project or question. Congratulations Jackie! In Memory Frederick “Ted” Shallabarger Loomis Frederick S. “Ted” Loomis, 62, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, after a two- year battle with cancer. He was born April 27, 1957 in Kansas City, MO to Howard Krey Sr. and Florence (Porter) Loomis. On June 13, 1992 he married Linda Marie (Kelcher) Loomis in Dallas, Texas. Ted moved as a child with his family to Pratt in 1963, coming from Independence, Kansas. He attended and graduated from Pratt High School in 1975 and Baker University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science. He graduated from the ABA National Trust School at Northwestern University in 1987. He became a Certified Trust Financial Advisor in 1989. He began working at The Peoples Bank in 1979, primarily working in the Trust Department for many years. He eventually became Chairman of the bank. He was also President and Treasurer of The Peoples Bankshares, Ltd., the parent company of the bank. In addition, he oversaw the development and ongoing management of the employee retirement plans of The Peoples Bank. Honoring Former KBA Board President, Francis Carr Francis Engle Carr passed away Saturday, September 14 at his home in Wellington, KS. He was born January 31, 1925, the son of Ellis and Kathrina (Engle) Carr in Wellington, KS. Francis graduated from Wellington High School in 1942 and served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a Bombardier on B-29’s and trained as a pilot. On June 5, 1948 Francis was united in marriage to Sarah Frances Phipps. Francis’s family association with banking in Wellington began around 1880 with his grandfather Jacob. His own association with what is now Impact Bank began in 1939 when he worked there part time. He continuously served as an officer or director from 1950 until September 14, 2019. Francis was very much a people person. He had a great memory and enjoyed keeping up with friends. He actively sent out over a hundred birthday cards every year. Francis was a longtime member and past president of the Kansas Bankers Association, as was his father. Buddie Staton Buddie Hershel Staton, age 88, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at his home. He was born January 9, 1931 outside Pleasanton the youngest of six children born to Novel "Bud" and Maude G. Bright Staton. He lived the majority of his life in Linn County except for ten months he spent in Detroit, Michigan as a child. He attended and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1949. On March 25, 1950 he married Wanda G. Weems in Pleasanton where they raised their family. Buddie worked in the banking business fifty-three and one-half years beginning in 1949, originally with the Bank of Pleasanton and then purchased by Farmers State of Blue Mound in 1989. Buddie was a member of the Kansas Bankers Association’s 50 Year Club.
