l e a d i n g a d v o c a t e f o r t h e b a n k i n g i n d u s t r y i n k a n s a s 8 CEO FORUM: ANNUAL MEETING Chris Donnelly (KBA Chairman), Rob Nichols (ABA President and CEO) and Doug Wareham (KBA President and CEO) team up to discuss Federal issues impacting Kansas bankers. Kurt Knutson (Founder, Chairman and CEO, Freedom Bank, Overland Park) is inducted as KBA Chairman at the Annual Meeting on Saturday morning. A near record number of bankers and their guests joined the KBA staff for the 35th year at the beautiful Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs for the 2019 KBA CEO Forum and Annual Meeting! KBA President and CEO Doug Wareham welcomed the attendees on the afternoon of Thursday, August 1, and shared some highlights of the conference that was ahead and introduced the staff. Chairman Chris Donnelly from Bank of the Prairie in Olathe, KS also welcomed the group, took a few moments to share some insights from his year as chairman, and encouraged all our bankers to support BankPAC. Rob Nichols, President and CEO of the ABA kicked off the conference, speaking on the topics of core provider strategies, legislative outlook, regulatory environment, and key issues affecting banks including faster payments, CECL, CRA modernization, cannabis banking, BSA/AML reform, credit unions, and the Farm Credit system. Following Mr. Nichols’ presentation, Doug Wareham and Chris Donnelly joined him on stage for a Mountainside Chat where they entertained questions from the audience on a variety of topics affecting bankers. David Herndon, Acting State Bank Commissioner, was on hand to address the group and share his outlook for the OSBC moving forward. Following him was Kim Robbins from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, speaking on the topic of Payments Modernization in which she gave a brief history of the payments system and the role that the Federal Reserve has played, followed by how the payments system is improving including information regarding faster payments and the development of 24x7x365 RTGS Settlement Services. The opening day of the conference concluded with a riveting presentation by Green Beret Commander Mark Nutsch, entitled “12 Strong: An Extraordinary Mission of Commitment, Purpose, Heroism and Hope.” Captain Nutsch Senator Jerry Moran provides an update from The Hill in Washington, DC.
