In the next session, “Strategic Measures Every Bank Manager Should Know,” Ryan Rackley, Cornerstone Advisors, provided best practices for improving ratios and how to assemble a working scorecard. Day two of the conference began with Jimmy Sawyers, Sawyers & Jacobs, with his session, “Bank Technology Trends: Disruptions, Innovation and Cybersecurity.” Banking today consists of finite resources, infinite opportunities and threats. Determining which opportunities to seize and which to forgo is the foundation of strategy and can set your bank on a path to success or failure. Jimmy shared the latest tech trends with a humorous, no-nonsense look at the business issues that impact us most. Jennifer Montgomery, Kansas Attorney General’s Office, presented a talk on “Human Trafficking Education and Awareness.” As one of the fastest-growing criminal industries in the world, human trafficking is based on recruiting, harboring and transporting people for the purposes of exploitation. Individuals who work in the financial services industry are in a unique position to identify and report trafficking. During her presentation, Jennifer shared FinCEN’s red flags and guidance on how banks can identify and report potential human trafficking activities. The conference closed with an inspiring presentation, “Making a Splash With Championship Culture,” by Joel Goldberg, Kansas City Royals’ Broadcast Team. Why do individuals leave jobs? It consistently comes back to culture! Every organization experience highs and lows. Just like in sports, a well-built team, with strong company culture, can weather the storm during the tough times. He provided stories from his experiences behind the scenes in baseball to teach life lessons. Joel emphasized the power of rising after failure, building trust, the value of networking, and how to connect people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
