A retirement reception was held at the KBA office to celebrate this event on a very cold and snowy January 17 with approximately 75 in attendance. “Herb’s dedication, leadership and service to the KBA, and specifically KBA Insurance, Inc., has set a very high standard for the entire KBA staff team to strive for,” states KBA President and CEO Doug Wareham. “All of us congratulate Herb on a fantastic career and we thank him for being a consummate professional, a trusted role model and a fantastic teammate.” Mary Taylor, KBA’s senior vice president of communications and marketing, sat down with Herb to garner some thoughts from him as he steps into his next chapter in life. What got you into the insurance field? The family I lived with in high school owned an insurance agency, and I went to work for them while I was going to Washburn. I stayed in the insurance business after I graduated. What was your hire date at KBA? Dec. 1, 1982 What was your original position at KBA? Assistant director of risk management. I became the director when Ash McNeal retired at the end of 1983. What other positions have you held at KBA?
