James “Jim” Koch

James “Jim” Koch, 73 years of age, Clyde, KS, entered into rest on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Jim was born March 29, 1950, in Concordia to Herman and Mayme (McCawley) Koch. Jim was a 1968 graduate of Clyde High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in History from Kansas State University in 1972. He married Jacqueline D. Hurley on Aug. 11, 1973, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville. Jim and Jackie were proud parents of two children, Jeff and Julie.

Jim was a lifetime farmer-stockman in the Clyde community. In addition, Jim was a bank officer in several area banks, including becoming President of Peoples Exchange Bank at Clyde. He served on USD #224 School Board, Clyde Area Foundation, a trustee for the Woods Charitable Trust, Clyde Public Building Commission, Cloud County Health Center Board of Trustees, Cloud County Community College Board of Trustees and Foundation Board, KSU Alumni Association Board, KSU Intercollegiate Athletic Council, President of North Central Kansas Catbacker Club, Concordia Chamber of Commerce Ag Division Chair, National Farmers Organization and Kansas Bankers Association. Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, including the Parish Council, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, including the Finance Council, and Knights of Columbus Council #1999.

Christopher “Chris” Costello

Christopher G. Costello, 67, Banker and Lawyer of Marion, Kansas, passed away July 13, 2023, at his home in Marion, surrounded by loved ones. He was born Nov. 15, 1955, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion to Edward J. Costello and Mary K. Costello. He graduated from Marion High School in 1973. He received his bachelor’s from Wichita State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977. He moved back home to join his father, Ed, in the family bank. In 1979, he moved to Topeka, Kansas, to pursue a doctorate in law at Washburn University. He graduated from law school in 1982 and moved to Tampa, Kansas, and continued his banking career and joined his father’s law practice. Chris served as President and CEO of the Tampa State Bank for the past 15 years. He also recently served as Marion City Councilman and on numerous local boards and committees.

In Chris’s pastime, he enjoyed golfing, camping, snow skiing, boating, flying drones, playing bridge and windsurfing. He also enjoyed water skiing and taught hundreds of the sport. He was passionate about his WSU Shockers and rarely missed a game.

Chris was a loving father to three children whom he enjoyed pranking, especially on his favorite holiday, April Fools Day. They also enjoyed bike riding and rollerblading as a family, even in the freezing cold on Christmas.

On July 1, 2015, he was united in marriage to Paige Brunner. Their marriage was filled with lots of love, laughter, and of course, great food.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Costello and Mary K. Costello and his brother Kevin Costello.

He is survived by his wife, Paige Brunner of Marion; his three children, Emily Costello-Kannady (Dax) of Marion, Kansas, Kevin Costello and Tim Costello, both of Missoula, Montana; and stepdaughter Preston Schneider of Wichita, Kansas; brother Pat Costello (Donna Kay) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Cathleen McNamara, Teresa Perky (Dave), and Barbara Loehr (John), all of Overland Park, Kansas and Michele Lundy (Bill), of Marion; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
