Donald Max Fuller

Donald Max Fuller passed away on Dec. 29, 2025, at Brewster Health Center in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on Aug. 1, 1939, in Wells, Kansas, the second son of Winifred Aileen Fuller and William Vincent Fuller. Max graduated from Miltonvale High School with the Class of 1957 and went on to earn a degree in animal husbandry from Kansas State University in 1961.
Max married Rachel Motter, and although the marriage later ended in divorce, it was an important chapter of his life.
After leaving farming, Max built a long and respected career in community banking. He ultimately served as President of Stockgrowers State Bank, with branches in Paxico, Alma and Silver Lake. He was deeply involved in banking leadership across the state, serving as President of the Community Bankers Association of Kansas from 1999 to 2000. Max also held leadership roles on committees with the Kansas Bankers Association, where he contributed to advocacy efforts and professional development for community banks throughout Kansas.
Beyond his professional career, Max had a lifelong passion for aviation. An active member of the Kansas Pilots Association, he owned several airplanes and regularly hosted fly-in events at Fuller Field, his grass airstrip near Maple Hill.
Max was a dedicated supporter of 4-H clubs and served for 40 years as a member of the Maple Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an active member of Maple Hill Community Congregational Church, where he served as a trustee.
Max is survived by his wife, Nancy Fuller; his daughter, Dawn Perry; and Jane and Monte Cales. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bailey (Jason) Ammann, Jessa (Ryan) Perry-Rivas, Ben (Michelle) Perry, Calley (Riley) Crawford, Tucker Cales and Clay Cales, as well as nine great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his stepchildren, Christina and Terry Haag, and Rance and Stacy Schmitthenner; and his step-grandchildren, Elle Haag, Robert Haag, Carl (Jaimie) Schmitthenner, Alex Schmitthenner and Noah (Ali) Schmitthenner.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Fuller; his sister, Barbara Wilke; and his grandson, Tanner Gail Cales.
